NEWS/PR: Inspiring Future Engineers - R&C Management Group Engages with Students at VITA Elementary of Vancouver Public Schools

Vancouver Innovation, Technology & Arts elementary school

At R&C Management Group, we believe in building more than just projects, we’re committed to building stronger communities. That’s why we were thrilled when our Senior Project Manager and Engineer, Dan Bodell, recently had the opportunity to volunteer at VITA Elementary School, part of Vancouver Public Schools, to help inspire the next generation of engineers, designers, and project managers.

A Day of STEM Exploration at VITA

Dan spent time with students inside the VITA facility, focusing on the potential development of the future 4th floor space. The space is currently unfinished, awaiting future development. With support from Kyle Rodgers of LSW Architects, who provided design drawings for the envisioned expansion, Dan led a hands-on session where students could explore architectural plans and get a real-world look into the exciting fields of engineering, construction, and project management.

Thanks to the leadership of Jessica Bodell at VITA, a specially designed small-group workshop brought math and engineering together in a meaningful way. Jessica coordinated a focused "Applied Math to Engineering Issues" session, helping students understand how core concepts like measurement, geometry, and spatial thinking are used to develop real design solutions. This class gave the students the opportunity to collaboratively develop a Final Design Concept for the future space—combining imagination with problem-solving skills.

Why Experiences Like This Matter

Early exposure to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) is key to helping young students see the wide range of career opportunities available in these fields. By giving students the chance to interact with real professionals and engage with actual design challenges, programs like the one at VITA Elementary help to demystify technical careers and make them accessible, exciting, and achievable.

These kinds of interactive learning moments are especially important at the elementary level, where curiosity is high and confidence is still forming. When students are encouraged to ask questions, think critically, and see their ideas come to life, it lays a strong foundation for future interest in engineering, design, architecture, and other high-demand STEM careers.

Celebrating Community Partnerships

We’re incredibly grateful to Vancouver Public Schools, especially Jessica Bodell of the VITA team, and Kyle Rodgers of LSW Architects for creating this meaningful opportunity. Partnerships between public schools and the private sector are essential in expanding access to real-world learning, and we’re proud to support such impactful programming.

At R&C Management Group, we look forward to continuing our commitment to STEM education, community involvement, and the development of spaces that not only serve today’s needs but also inspire the innovators of tomorrow.
