NEWS/PR: Building the Future of Public Safety in Camas - Fire Station 41 and Headquarters Project Underway
The City of Camas, Washington is taking a significant step forward in strengthening public safety infrastructure with the development of the new Fire Station 41 and Administrative Office Project. Located in the heart of downtown, this project will serve as the future headquarters for the Camas-Washougal Fire Department and support emergency response operations across both Camas and Washougal for decades to come.
This investment reflects a long-term commitment to ensuring firefighters have the facilities, tools, and support needed to serve a growing community with speed, safety, and reliability.
A Community-Informed Investment in Public Safety
The project is rooted in community priorities. In August 2024, voters approved a public safety bond measure to fund critical improvements, including replacement of Fire Station 41 and development of a modern headquarters facility.
Prior to the bond measure, the City engaged the community through public meetings and outreach efforts to better understand operational needs, facility requirements, and long-term goals for emergency services. That input continues to shape the design and delivery of the new station.
Project Progress: From Planning to Construction
With planning and design underway, the project is now transitioning into early construction activities. Several key milestones will take place over the coming months:
Utility Work and Site Preparation
The first visible activity will include utility trenching led by NW Natural. This work will prepare the site for future construction and includes temporary sidewalk adjustments to safely complete underground utility installation.
Site Mobilization and Safety Setup
Following utility work, the project will move into early site mobilization. The GCCM contractor team of, Howard S. Wright, will begin installing fencing, signage, and site controls to secure the project area and prepare for early construction activities.
Demolition and Construction Readiness
With the site secured, demolition and site preparation activities will begin, clearing the way for vertical construction of the new facility. These early phases are critical in setting up a safe, efficient construction process in a busy downtown environment.
Designed for Service, Built for the Future
The new Fire Station 41 and Headquarters is being designed to meet the evolving needs of modern fire service operations. The facility will include:
Apparatus bays for emergency response vehicles
Firefighter living quarters for 24-hour operations
Training and support spaces
Administrative offices serving both Camas and Washougal
By maintaining its location in downtown Camas, the facility will continue to support strong response coverage while remaining closely connected to the community it serves.
